SPD warns the dangers of drunk driving

The Susanville Police Department shared this press release from the city of Redding after a fatal drunk driving accident Sunday morning, Aug. 25.

According to a Facebook post, “The results and reality of drinking and driving.

These lives will never be the same and their families have forever changed.”

Redding police respond to a DUI collision that kills passenger

On Aug. 25, 2024, at approximately 12:17 a.m. officers responded to a report of a collision on Buenaventura Boulevard near Teton Drive. Upon arrival, officers encountered a vehicle in the center of the roadway fully engulfed in flames.

Redding Fire arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.

Through the investigation, it was determined that one of the occupants of the vehicle was ejected and transported by ambulance with life-threatening injuries.

Once at the hospital, the passenger was pronounced deceased.

Another passenger, Hunter Alexander, 20 years of Anderson, was uninjured and released.

The driver of the vehicle, Cristian Bennett, 19, of Redding, was arrested for vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence and causing great bodily injury or death, and driving without a license. Bennett was booked into the Shasta County Jail.

At the time of this press release, the Redding Police Traffic Unit is on scene investigating this collision.
