Supes ‘delete’ consideration of agreement with County Counsel from agenda
No explanation was given, but prior to the approval of the agenda at the Lassen County Board of Supervisors Dec. 10 meeting Board Chairman Aaron Albaugh announced item H2 — a legal services agreement between the county of Lassen and Prentice Long PC for county counsel services — had been “deleted.”
According to the agenda item, the term of this contract would be Jan. 1, 2025 through Dec. 20, 2028.
According to the agenda item, “Law Firm (Prentice Long) shall perform all services required pursuant to this agreement in the manner and according to the standards observed by a competent practitioner of the profession in which Law Firm is engaged in the geographical area in which Law Firm practices its profession. Law Firm shall prepare all work products required by this agreement in a substantial, first-class manner and shall conform to the standards of quality normally observed by a person practicing in Law Firm’s profession.”
Prentice Long would assign the county’s counsel, and the county could request a different attorney should it desire one.
The county would pay monthly for the services based upon “invoices received for services satisfactorily performed and for authorized reimbursable costs incurred.”
Prentice Long would be responsible for providing “professional malpractice insurance in the amount of not less than $2 million per occurrence.”
According to an exhibit with the item, the county would pay a flat, monthly retainer of $13,500 per year ($162,000 annually). Costs for litigation services would be extra and would include monthly charges for child dependency matters and appears ($7,000 per month), public guardian matters and appeals ($2,000 per month) and necessary legal costs.
