Susanville Planning Commission approves Use Permit changes at Frontier Inn

At its Tuesday, Oct. 22 meeting, the Susanville Planning Commission approved by a 3-1 vote a use permit allowing short- and long-term rentals of the 38-units at the Frontier Inn Hotel on Main Street in Susanville (Resolution No. 24-1184).

Several current residents addressed the commission expressing their support for the plan and the facility’s owners.

Local realtor Jim McCarthy questioned the process followed by the commission. He’s said he’s been a Susanville resident since 1992 and he said repairs on the overhang at the site should have been completed before allowing long-term rentals.

City Planner Kelley Mumper said this use permit is a clean-up matter, and he said the city has been working closely with the property owner to modify the property to meet the requirements of the use permit. He said the cooking and food prep requirements had been met with microwaves and hot plates installed in each room.

Other actions
The SPC approved the minutes from its June 25 and Aug. 13 meetings. It also approved Resolution No. 24-183 amending a use permit for the Susanville Indian Rancheria Housing Authority. Based a concern from a neighbor, the commission requires the trash area be moved away from the neighbor’s property line. In addition, the commission approved Resolution No. 24-1185 for a variance allowing a deck replacement and new stairway, Resolution No. 24-1186 for a new food distribution area at the United Methodist Church, and Resolution No. 24-1187 to allow beer and wine sale at Uptown Cinemas.

The commission’s next regularly scheduled meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 12.
