The tax revolt is back — Save Prop 13, Save Our Children’s Future and Reclaim Voters’ Rights

So much talk about affordable housing and when one has it. Government is taking it away through 2020 Proposition 19. In 1978, Howard Jarvis started a Tax Revolt by passing Prop 13 on a June 1978 ballot.  In 1986, Prop 13 was extended to children through Prop 58 and later to grandchildren in 1996 through Prop 193.  Prop 19 took Props 58 and 193 away and now the children of Prop 13 beneficiaries are losing their homes and small businesses.  Tenants are also affected.

Once again, people are angry that they are losing homes to taxation, and there are three petitions either out or coming out to be completed and signed to be placed on the ballot.

Local Taxpayer Protection Act to Save Prop 13
Limit government from raising taxes by maintaining a two-thirds voter approval. Stop additional transfer taxes if you are forced to sell your home through Prop 19.  As an example, through Measure ULA in Los Angeles there is an additional 4 to 5.5 percent of sales price that must be paid. Repeal the additional transfer taxes if previously enacted.

FiXProp19 to Save Our Children’s Future (by Repeal The Death Tax
If you want to keep portability but remove the unaffordable property tax reassessment from Prop 19 reinstating Propositions 58 and 193.  If we can’t pay …  we can’t stay!  Let’s keep property taxes low so everyone benefits including tenants and small businesses.

Reclaim Voters’ Rights
If you want to get back our rights to place citizen’s initiatives, referendums and vetoes on any ballot to protect ourselves.  In 2011, the legislators and gtovernor signed away our rights and it is the reason we have to wait two years for a November General ballot to fight to FiXProp19.

Proposition 19 is a land grab to force sales of multigenerational homes to upzone.  It will increase homelessness as truly affordable housing is lost (for tenants too) and small businesses will be challenged to survive.  Seniors are the largest demographic moving into homelessness.  When seniors (and disabled) outlive the assets of the sale, they will be forced to rely on public assistance.  Prop 19 was supposed to help seniors and disabled.  Sold in the name of equity, it is pure gentrification.

Additional Transfer Taxes are punitive when one is forced to sell.  There is already a Documentary Transfer Tax.  Click here to see the counties in the state, including Lassen County.

Join the Tax Revolt in 2026 if you are angry as the cost of living is “Too Damn High!”

Insurance is up, utilities are up, maintenance costs are up … Let’s try to reduce a significant expense … Property tax by FiXProp19 to Save Our Children’s Future.  If forced to sell and you don’t want to pay additional transfer taxes or avoid future tax increases Save Prop 13.  If you don’t want to wait to FiXProp19 or any other bad legislation being done to us, we need to Reclaim Voters’ Rights.  Sign these three petitions.
