Traffic stop leads to arrest of two Lassen County residents on drug charges

Robert Fitzgerald, 46, of Litchfield and Ashlee Richardson, 38, of Susanville were arrested Thursday, Feb. 1 after a routine traffic stop.

According to a statement from the Susanville Police Department, about 10:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, SPD conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration near Riverside Drive and Safeway.

While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle —  Fitzgerald, the driver, and  Richardson, the passenger — an officer could see drug paraphernalia behind the driver’s seat on the floor.

SPD K-9 Zeke was used to walk around the vehicle. Zeke alerted on the passenger side of the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 16.7 grams of suspected Fentanyl found in the front seat area. Officers located approximately 8.8 grams of suspected Fentanyl on Fitzgerald’s person.

Both were arrested for possession for sale of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Fitzgerald was also arrested for violation of probation.

The investigation continues.
