A man and woman coming to Susanville’s High Desert State Prison to pick up an inmate who was being paroled wound up in custody themselves after correctional officers discovered a small amount of marijuana in their vehicle.
Charlie Hahn, an administrative assistant at HDSP, said the driver, Bryanna Almond, and passenger Anthony Thetford were taken into custody, transported to the Lassen County Detention Facility and booked into the Lassen County Jail.
Hahn said Almond and Thetford came on the prison grounds to pick up an inmate about to be paroled, and officers noticed they were acting in a suspicious manner.
Officers from the prison’s Investigative Services Unit approached the vehicle and obtained permission to search it, Hahn said. During the search, the officers discovered about 2 ½ grams of suspected marijuana.
Hahn said the paroled inmate was transported to Redding where he had to buy a bus ticket home.
The case has been referred to the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office.
