Pride and beautification can be contagious, said City Councilmember Joe Franco, at the council’s Nov. 16 meeting.

Franco addressed the council with concerns of the community having eyesores of areas with abandoned vehicles, weeds and general trash and litter that get strewn around during windstorms.
Mayor Lino Callegari said solid waste has trash grabbers and pick-up sticks and trash bags just for the purpose of volunteers, organizations and non-profits use for community cleanup.

Franco suggested the city starts the beautification process by cleaning up their own areas like shop yards and storage areas.
Also he said consideration should be taken regarding abandoned buildings and lots.
Franco said he believes by the city showing pride by beautifying its areas of responsibility and showing pride in the community, citizens will catch the contagion and become prideful of their homes and property.
Callegari said it is important for local government and businesses as well as the citizens to take pride in their property. He commended Franco for his suggestions and for future efforts in bringing awareness and action to the issue.
