A similar event — the Dr. Meinert Memorial Steak Fry — will be held July 19 at Lloyd Keefer Park in Janesville.Lassen County upervisor Jeff Hemphill and the Janesville Town Council will hold a memorial steak fry and a candlelight vigil at 5 p.m. June 19 at Lloyd Keefer Park in Janesville.
The event will honor the memory of Rich Meinert, a Janesville veterinarian who was found dead at his office June 23, 2014. His death is being investigated as a possible homicide.
Austin Meinert, Rich’s brother, said beer and wine will be served beginning at 5 p.m., dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and the candlelight vigil will follow. Hemphill is also expected to speak at the event.
Rich Meinert.Austin Meinert said he hoped this would become an annual remembrance of his brother’s life and contribution to the community.
All proceeds will benefit the Dr. Meinert Memorial Fund, and all money raised will be used for improvements at Lloyd Keefer Park or for scholarships for students from Janesville School.
Austin Meinert also said his brother’s clinic has reopened with a new veterinarian who has decided to retain the original name — Thompson Peak Veterinarian Service.
